In March the 8th 1513, Giovanni De Medici, Lorenzo il Magnifico’ s son, was elected Pope. For the first time, a member of the Medici family became the head of the Catholicism.
He chose the name of Leone because of the Symbol of Florence, the lion or “Marzocco”.
Due to his brilliant cultural background, Rome became soon a magnificent cultural and artistic point of reference, also because of artists like Raffaello Sanzio.
The exhibition celebrates the 500th anniversary of Leone X’s election, with a path from his youth to the election and the triumphal procession when he came back in town.
